November 2010 - Breckenridge, Colorado DSC and LSS JOIN FORCES FOR A GREAT THANKSGIVING The Breckenridge locals are still raving about the awesome snow and wonderful ski conditions over the Thanksgiving Holiday. Twenty four skiers from the Dallas Ski Club and Lone Star Skiers had the opportunity to ski some of the best snow conditions in late November in more than 30 years. |

This was a fairly small TSC trip for Thanksgiving, but everyone had a wonderful time. We all stayed at Beaver Run, a beautiful ski/in, ski/out facility that had plenty of amenities. Some folks drove up early just to take advantage of the excellent snow, and the rest joined the group on Tuesday evening. Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, the ski resort opened most of the rest of the mountain, as if they were doing it just to welcome the TSC….well actually they were.
Thanksgiving Day was another great snow day, but very cold. The high was only 9 degrees. Yes, the temperatures were very cold, but, once again, no one was complaining as the snow was awesome. All of us joined for a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner at the resort. The dinner is a local favorite and we all ate more than our share.
Friday, Gene Gilliam, Race Director, did another awesome job as several NASTAR metals and awards were bestowed on members. James Dooley (LSS) continues to win metals even at his young age of 92. Karen Fischer, a new DSC member from Wichita Falls, made a big hit with her first ever NASTAR ski run. Karen wasn’t the only first timer: Kim Hampton (DSC) also did NASTAR for the first time. Congratulations and thanks to both!! Thanks to the others who participated in NASTAR racing: Joan Nesbitt, Joann Cox, Mary Beth Wilson, Gene Gilliam, Steve Abrey, Bill Buehler, Bill Bigley and Ed Cox.
Sharon Harrison (DSC) had her daughter (Aaryn Giblin) and grandson (Jack Giblin) on this trip and, as new DSC members, they were a great addition. Jack is new to snowboarding, but by his third day he was carving up the blue slopes and had no difficulty keeping up with the rest of the family. Just don’t ask Jack if he ever wants to follow the Trip Leader (Steve Abrey) again. Unfortunately, Steve didn’t do such a good job navigating around Peak 7.
Many of you reading this article have been to Breckenridge and you all know what a beautiful and quaint ski town it is. But for all of you that were so concerned about the snow, you sure missed an AWESOME trip. In fact, if you think this article about Breckenridge snow sounds good, you should check out the great snow that all of the Rockies are receiving. It makes you want to sign up for one of the remaining trips this year!
To all those participants, thank you for making this trip so memorable and fun. I hope to see you again very soon.
