Snowbird 2011

March 2011 - Snowbird, Utah

Snowbird was unquestionably one of the best trips of the season.  The snow was perfect.  The varied terrain of Snowbird and Alta fully challenged everyone's capabilities.

One of the high points was meeting Dick Bass, one of the founder's of the Dallas Ski Club, at the welcoming party.  Dick Bass is a terrific speaker with a repertoire of incredible stories that can easily last for hours.

The club races were on Thursday.  Of fifteen people about twelve showed up for the races.  That was enough to win first place in our division.   Way to go Dallas Ski Club!

The real surprise was Charlene Cottingham!  Charlene had said she would never race again and, furthermore, this would be her last year to ski.  Charlene did show up.  And Charlene raced!  And how Charlene raced . . . Charlene won first place!  It would appear Charlene has a few more skiing years left.

All of our activities were orchestrated using text messages.   Some of the 20th century antediluvian ones (like Bob Cox) complained about not being in the loop.  Fortunately there were enough 21st century types (like Ann Alford and Joyce Bartell) who managed to keep everyone in the loop.  The last day the phone company informed me that I should consider another plan.  The 1000+ text messages were comfortably above my 400 message plan limit.
