THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!! Bob Hope has nothing on the Dallas Ski Club! We were thoroughly entertained watching his classic video clips on our trek to Telluride as we sipped on a glass or two of wine and enjoyed the breathtaking scenery. We should have known that if you start a trip having that much fun that it only gets better - and it did.
Telluride did not disappoint the 38 DSC members who were fortunate enough to take this ski vacation. And what a group! Joining us were the following new members: JoAnn & Ed Cox, Pat Bartel, Linda Howard, Vivien Benjamin, Kelly Farrell, Diane Thomson, Ann Gore, Christine Paul, Jeffrey Cohen & Christina Harvey.
Our group really enjoyed party central -- the condo that Betty Schlackman, Yo & Ray Fischer & Helga Sims shared. As Trip Leaders, Yo & Betty kept the group hopping with apres ski happy hours, dining at Telluride's great restaurants & our excursion to watch the fireworks at Mountain Village and the torch parade which were planned especially for the DSC (not!).
And while we had fun off the slopes -- the real fun was skiing Telluride. This mountain did not disappoint us! Our condos were conveniently located at the base of Lift 7. For the skiers who didn't brave the "ski in" runs to our condo, all they had to do was load at the top of Lift 7 for the ride down! That surely contributed to the fact that we had ZERO injuries!!!!
There was skiing for all levels and all the while breathtaking views including the Coor's Brewery Mountain peaks seen from the "See Forever" run. Sybil Collins coined the "Ooh La La" phrase that was our mantra as we skied the majestic terrain of Telluride. Skiing wasn't the only way to enjoy the beauty. Christine Paul & Christina Harvey rented snowmobiles and had a tour that was second to none. Next time we absolutely have to include a day of snowmobiling!
At Saturday night's happy hour and dinner following at Rustico's, we managed to get in some snow dances that were quite effective! When we hit the slopes Sunday morning, we had fresh snow and it snowed and snowed and snowed! For those of us who weren't daunted by the conditions - we enjoyed a fabulous day of powder skiing.
On our last night - Sunday - we had a dinner party at Party Central and we just have to brag on our own Helga Sims who slaved over a hot stove (when she remembered to turn it on) to make her signature dish - Shepherd's pie. Thank you, Helga! You are the best! We all extolled the virtue of being smart enough to ensure Helga was not only on our trip but roomed with the trip leaders!!! Following dinner -- we let "the games begin." We were introduced to LCR - a great dice game that created wealth for a fortunate few! The 2 winners were Miss 'Ooh - La La' and Susan Barilich. (The IRS was notified.)
Our trip went by so quickly -- we had a fabulous trip -- enjoyed by a fabulous group and for that -- we'll end with "THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES".
